Hi! I'm Katrina, and I work as a OneStream CPM consultant at AMCO Solutions in the Nordic region. My partner and I moved from the Philippines to Denmark in 2022, and we've been living here for about three years now.
Since I joined the AMCO office in Denmark, my role has evolved. I transitioned from supporting Application Lifecycle Management to working on and handling projects from start to finish. I really enjoy the freedom of working on my own projects. While I appreciate working with my team, there's something special about having my own tasks to complete and take pride in.
I decided to leave the Philippines for Denmark for various reasons. At that time, my partner and I were looking for more than just job opportunities; we wanted a place where we could truly build a life together. We explored several options, and Denmark felt like the perfect fit for us. My partner visited the country back in 2019 and really liked it, which certainly influenced our decision. Additionally, we were fortunate to have the chance to relocate through AMCO, which also played a role in our final choice.
I would say the work culture in the Philippines notably differs from that in Denmark. In the Filipino office, there's a strong emphasis on building close-knit relationships and teamwork. It feels like a family environment. In contrast, Denmark values independence and efficiency, with a strong respect for life-work balance and personal time.
The communication style also varies; while our Filipino office emphasizes harmony, Denmark values direct and transparent communication.
Initially, this shift was a bit challenging for me, as I tend to be slightly shy. However, I've grown to appreciate this clarity in communication. It's incredibly efficient when it comes to projects.
Of course, moving abroad has its challenges. One of the toughest parts for me is being away from my family in the Philippines. It's hard knowing that visiting them isn't always a simple trip. But it's something you just have to accept.
On the flip side, living and working in Denmark has broadened my horizons. I've gained a much deeper understanding of cultural differences. Being in Europe and working with people from various regions has really expanded my perspective. I feel like I'm even more open to different perspectives now, but also much more aware of how to consider people's backgrounds when communicating and showing respect to others.
